Beauty and Sense. The Awareness of Poetic Composers in the XX Century

The report is built based on differentiating the aspect of aesthetic and ideology of poetry, allowing itself to be interpreted in the practices or in direct replies of twentieth century composers. Raising artism above all other values in the trend called parnasianizm at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries is the high achievement of the trend present in culture from the time of Kant, who opened the way to nobilitizing beauty.
In the twenty years between the wars, the poetic awareness of many authors is characterized by a high valuing of aesthetic beauty, sometimes completely separate from a sense of literal expression. But yet at this same time answers appear which accent the ideological function of poetry. In response to the conditions of the war period and later situation of slavery, in the awareness of poets the most important matter becomes the sense of poetry, whose most important vocation appears to be the function of rescuing values.
It is also consciously accented when, in expressing the different reality of man in the XX century, poets take advantage of a completely new aesthetical assumption. The authors of the last decades of the century, rebelling against the ideological activity of literature, come out with a new program also in the name of the sense of poetry, and not new aesthetical assumptions. As proponents of the view that poetry has in itself rescuing strength, Czesław Miłosz and Karol Wojtyła - John Paul II were presented.

The Academic Creativity and Activity of Juliusz Kleiner. Reading Delivered in Lublin
on the Fiftieth Anniversary of His Death

The delegate called to mind the merrits of the Lublin environment for honoring the learned. He presented the heritage of Juliusz Kleiner, primarily three monographs of the great romantics in the background of Polish monographistic historical literature. He reminded us of the activities of the learned, particularly his years in Lublin.

Moral Attitudes of Students in Conditions of Social Change

Sociocultural transformations occurring in post-modern societies create an environment encouraging changes in moral attitudes taking place among the younger generation. Sociological research is an attempt to present the variability and continuity of described phenomena. The article presents the changes in moral attitudes, in which the gradual secularization of morality, as well as its individualization and pluralization can be observed. The fundamental principles found in the Decalogue are accepted by many students, who nevertheless carry on a kind of revolution in the area of customs and morality pertaining to marriage and family. Many moral principles which have been accepted and proclaimed by religious institutions are more often being rejected by the younger generation.
Among a certain part of Catholics, two identities can be distinguished: a moral and a religious one, which in some issues are entirely different. A change from a morality based on objective norms, to one in which the individual him or herself chooses particular values and norms as more appropriate from others, can be observed. This is encouraged by the overemphasized role of the individual's conscience without confrontation with objective norms. The indicators of rigorous attitudes are beginning to decline in favor of permissivism. The judgement of much behavior in the awareness of young people often depends on the circumstances. In this way, a vague, unclear morality is formed.

Moral Awareness of School and Academic Youth

The primary problem on which attention is centered is the relationship of pupils and students in Poland with the moral teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. From the results of previous research, it appears that Polish youth almost universally identify with the Roman Catholic Church (92%), but with great caution, and sometimes with clear disapproval in respect to the Church's teaching on moral issues.
For analyzing this issue, the research perspective was proposed, which is appropriate for sociology of religion and morality, encompassing empirical exploration in a period of seventeen years (1988, 1998, 2005/6). During this period, identification with religious faith and moral attitude showed significant change in dynamics, in which the latter were characterized by a decidedly greater trend in minus especially in the period of 1988-1998.
This disapproval toward the moral demands of the Church would be an example of the lack of religious consequences at maintaining an individualistic attitude and moral subjectivity. It appears that mass participation in pilgrimages and taking part in services on account of the illness and then death of the pope, proving a deep emotional tie with their Countryman, do not at all have to pertain to a full acceptance of His teachings. This is most visible in the area of sexual ethics concerning marriage and family life.
This clear dissonance becomes even more clearly evident in the deepened interviews, in which the youth willingly and extensively, but unfortunately often critically, spoke out on the topics of purity, the life of the unborn and euthanasia. The perceived symptoms of the lowering of acceptance for the moral position of the Church among the youth may show a progressing change of awareness of morality, which in the case of further strengthening, may take on an image of lasting tendencies and be the prediction of new religious-moral attitudes of future but already adult Poles.

Identity Crisis and Moral Awareness of Junior High School Students.
A Sociological Study

The results of research presented here confirm the accepted main hypothesis in which I have established that young people - junior high school students - somewhat in the manner of their parents, also value very highly such attributes of sacramental marriage as: indissolubility (although many support "situational" divorce), fidelity and marital exclusivity (even though some do not see any moral wrong or injury in marital infidelity and extramarital relations), procreation (although many consider having only a small family with one or two children, while some do not want any at all), sacramentality (although a certain percentage of them are only in favor of civil marriage). On the other hand, the majority of researched junior high school students more highly value in marital or family life the quality of their own happiness and value less the stability of the institution of marriage and of the family community. The level of religious faith and the degree of identity crisis considerably influence the moral attitude and behavior of junior high school students. The majority of them have a very low level of moral self-awareness, even though the level of this awareness is dependent on many factors which I have mentioned in a detailed analysis in this study.
