Center for American Law

The Center for American Law is a joint initiative of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology and the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. The Center organizes the School of American Law, which is a three-year study program in American law taught in English primarily by American law professors and leading to a certificate issued jointly by two sponsoring institutions.
The first series of lectures on American Law was organized at KUL during the spring of 1998 as a result of the successful co-operation of the Chair of the Legal History with the American Bar Association under its Central and Eastern European Law Initiative (ABA/CEELI) program. As a result of this co-operation, the Center for American Law was established. The Center is a part of the “Project Poland” initiated by the Chicago-Kent College of Law and co-ordinated by Prof. Richard Warner.
On March 1st, 1999 in Lublin the official inauguration of the Center took place in which the US Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Daniel Fried and the Dean of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Prof. Henry H. Perrit Jr., participated. The head of the Chair of the Legal History, Prof. Grzegorz Górski , became the first director of the Center.
The Center for American Law provides intellectually curious students and legal professionals with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the American law and to meet American lawyers. This offer is addressed not only to the law students, but also to the students of linguistics, economics, international relations, administration and other.
Apart from its educational activity, the Center organizes and co-organizes also international conferences such as: „Poland: Ten Years of Economic Transformation” in 1999, „Securing the Internet:  Internet Security and E-Commerce” in 2002, “Poland Without Corruption” in 2000, “US after September 11th – International and Legal Results” in 2003.
The students of the School of American Law participate in international moot court competitions such as the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition and the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition.
