• Construction and meaning of space in the texts (18th-21st c.) that belong to broadly understood Gothic convention

• Theoretical-semiotical, formal, and phenomenological-approach to space in literature (theories of Mikhail Bakhtin and Yuri Lotman)

• Application of Mikhail Bakhtin's concepts of carnival and carnivalization, dialogicality, polyphony, heteroglossia and grotesque body in the analysis of English-language texts
