CHARACTERISTICS OF CONTACT BETWEEN PSYCHOLOGIST
AND CHILD WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD)
DURING TESTING BY STANDARD DIAGNOSTIC METHODS

Abstract. There is wide report of pervasive problems in social functioning among
children diagnosed with ADHD. Individuals with ADHD are characterized as out of
synchrony with ongoing events, inflexible to situational demands, unresponsive to cues
or feedback and insensitive to other's needs as well as other's emotions. In spite of
specific social functioning standardized diagnostic procedure creates especially difficult
situation for children with ADHD. The paper describes specific features of interaction
between psychologist and child with ADHD based on clinical analysis of contact be-
tween psychologist and ADHD-diagnosed child during testing using Wechsler Intelli-
gence Scale for Children (WISC-R). Psychologist is usually obliged to sustain actively
child's interest in particular tasks. Nevertheless diagnostician has to comply with the
rules of standardized diagnostic procedure.
