The Department of Pastoral Theology was established on 11 June 2014 in the Institute of Pastoral Theology and Catechesis at the Theology Department KUL (John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin) by the directive issued by the vice-chancellor of KUL. As a result the Department of General Pastoral Theology, Department of Detailed Pastoral Theology and the Department of Psychological and Pedagogic Catechesis were merged into the Department of Pastoral Theology. The composition of the department is made up by the former members of the above-mentioned departments: Fr dr hab. Marek Fiałkowski OFMConv - department director, Rev. Bp Dr hab. Wiesław Śmigiel, prof. KUL and Rev Dr hab. Paweł Mąkosa, prof. KUL.





Academics of the Department of Pastoral Theology are researching the theology of laity, the dynamics of religious associations, the presence of Christians in social, political and economic life, lay Catholic groupings, the theology of culture, sign of the times theology, the Church and the world relations, basis and subject of pastoral work, special pastoral work, psycho-pedagogic conditioning of catechesis, all aspects of religious education of the youth, the systems of religion teaching in the countries of Western Europe and North America and evangelizing activities of Church in Poland.
