FAMILY SYSTEM RESOURCES AND THE SENSE OF COHERENCE IN THE ADULT CHILD

Summary. Combining the family system approach with the stress paradigm and Antonovsky’s theory it was hypothesized that family system resources would influence the sense of coherence (SOC) in young adults. A structural equation model of the adult child’s SOC determinants with parental education as an exogenous latent variable, parental SOC, parental and the child’s economical satisfaction, and family strengths (perceived by parents and by the child) as mediating (endogenous) variables was confirmed in 124 subjects aged 18-25 and their parents, which lent some support to the hypothesis.
