Institute of Pedagogy

The Institute of Pedagogy at the Off-Campus Faculty of Social Sciences in Stalowa Wola of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin was founded in September 2004. Jolanta Żmichowska PhD, University Professor, was its first Director. Since 16 February 2009 rev. prof. Andrzej Gretkowski, PhD has been in charge of the Institute.
Currently the Institute includes 26 employees - 8 doctors and professors (including 4 full professors) 9 assistant professors - doctors, 4 assistant-doctors and 5 masters.

The Institute maintains close contacts in terms of scientific work and practice with various state institutions, social and religious organisations, involved in the process of teaching, upbringing, care, socialisation, resocialisation, revalidation and social adaptation of children, young people, adults and elderly people. The co-operation contracts signed with those institutions and organisations offer the opportunity to carry out observations and research, as well as internships, and allow our students of various specialties to collect materials for their diploma thesis.

Every year the Institute prepares scientific conferences at various levels, which arouses great interest of academic teachers and in-service teachers, psychologists, lawyers, social workers, physicians, as well as other specialists. The subject of these conferences corresponds to the scientific research carried out by particular departments of the Institute of Pedagogy, and supports the development of the academic staff and the students.

The State Accreditation Board at the Ministry of Education and University Education, having completed in December 2005 the expert analysis of the entire process of preparing students for their profession in the field of pedagogy at each level, specialisation and form of teaching, the process of education was successfully assessed and achieved full accreditation for the next four years.

The Institute keeps developing. Having acquired the acceptance of the KUL Senate the "Pomocna Dłoń" Psycho-Pedagogical Counseling Centre is going to start its operations for the students and their families (under the supervision of rev. prof. Andrzej Gretkowski). We are thinking of launching new specialisations and specialties. We are delighted with our students' achievements and look forward to the future full of new ideas, creative work and numerous plans the aim of which is to educate pedagogues who can face the real challenges of the 21st century, do their professional duties at the highest level of methodology and teaching, but most of all, be good Christians, ready to pursue and propagate the truth and bring help to the fellow human being
