Scientific interest and research

Metabolic and molecular responses of plants to abiotic stress factors. The research is focused mainly on the response and tolerance of higher plants to high concentrations of heavy metals (particularly cadmium and copper) in their environment of growth. Evaluation of the relationship between toxicity of various concentrations of heavy metals and the elements of programmed cell death (PCD) in Phaseolus coccineus (L.) plants.

Skills and methods

Spectrophotometric and luminescent methods, electrophoretic techniques of nucleic acid and protein separation, analysis of gene expression at the protein level (western blot), immunocytochemistry, high performance liquid chromatography, DNA polymorphism studies using PCR-based techniques (ISSR, RAPD, AFLP), isolation and purification of nucleic acids and proteins from plant material, determination of the activity and the level of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, assessment of the redox state of cells under stress conditions
