INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES IN THE LEARNING AND THINKING STYLES, THEIR STRUCTURE
AND BEHAVIORAL CONSEQUENCES

Summary. The article start with defining the concept of cognitive style and a new proposal for cognitive style taxonomy according four levels of mental processing: delimi-tation of information field, multidimensional scanning, searching for and changing the equivalence range, metacognitive activity. In the proposed theoretical framework con-cept of cognitive style is defined as complex, vector like variable in respect to their compensational and integrative functions. On each level of processing the cognitive style represent a type of functional system which integrate energetic (temperamental), processual and, regulative limitations in the capabilities of human mind. Proposed theoretical framework is applicated to Sternberg's (1997) theory of mental self-government styles and author's empirical results on the structure of the dimensions for learning and thinking styles.
