NEUROPSYCHOLOGY OF TEMPORAL CODING AND FEELING OF TIME FLOW

Czesław Nosal

There are many reasons for including the cognitive representations of time flow to the psychological models. The main reason is based on the position that precise description of behavioral regulation should be based on a new cognitive-temporal models which integrate time flow and temporal standards with feedback information. This article discusses a few basic theoretical problems dealing with role of time representations in the framework of behaviour regulation. In the proposed context of theoretical analysis three levels of temporal mechanisms/standards are discussed: neurobiological, psychophysical, and psychological or existential. The fundamental problem is how these three levels work together in the process of creating a temporal unity and feeling of time flow? The temporal segmentation for current cognitive-behavioral units and tracing of temporal perspective seems to be basic two mechanisms which relate the adjacent levels. The temporal segmentation relates neurobiological and psychophysical levels. Tracing and changing the temporal perspective relate cognitive–psychophysical and existential levels.
