Maria CHUCHRA (2009). Obraz brzemienia rodziny z osobą chorą na schizofrenię // Family burden in schizophrenia Roczniki Psychologiczne // Annals of Psychology, 12, 2, 103-128.

Summary: Scientific interest in the families of schizophrenic people has had a history of its own. In 1940's, the family was considered to be the main factor responsible for the illness. Blaming the family was later replaced by accusing it of causing relapses. Genetic theories which are being propagated currently do not seem to solve the problem either, as the parents may feel guilty for their genetic load. With the course of time, it has become clear that the family bears the material, emotional and social consequences of the disease, and the responsibility of providing care for the ill has been termed "family burden". This stance gave birth to various tendencies aimed at helping and supporting the families of people with schizophrenia. The objective of this article is to demonstrate the difficulty and complexity of families providing care for a family member with schizophrenia. The article consists of 2 parts: the first one outlines the general family functioning in families providing care for a family member with schizophrenia and the second one aims at characterizing the burden and related factors.

Key words: schizophrenia, family burden.

Anna BRYTEK-MATERA, Edyta CHARZYŃSKA (2009). Związek pomiędzy niezadowoleniem z ciała i zmiennymi psychospołecznymi współwystępującymi z zaburzeniami odżywiania // Body dissatisfaction and psychosocial variables associated with eating disorders Roczniki Psychologiczne // Annals of Psychology, 12, 2, 129-150.

Summary: The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between body dissatisfaction and personality variables among anorexic and bulimic women. Method: 109 patients with a DSM-IV-based diagnosis of anorexia (n = 65) or bulimia nervosa (n = 44) were examined. The control group consisted of 65 healthy women. The Body Dissatisfaction subscale of the Eating Disorders Inventory, Self-Esteem Inventory, the Self-Expression and Control Scale, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Internal Powerful Others and Chance Scale were used in the study. Results: Body dissatisfaction, anger out, external control and belief in chance were significantly lower in the anorexic group as compared to the bulimic group. Additionally, the women suffering from anorexia had significantly higher family self-esteem and internal control. In the clinical sample of female adolescents suffering from anorexia, a correlation was found between body dissatisfaction and: age (r = 0,440; p<0,01), family self-esteem (r = -0,433; p<0,01) and professional self-esteem (r = -0,412; p<0,01). However, the body dissatisfaction in patients with bulimia nervosa was related to anger out (r = 0,434; p<0,01), anger out control (r = 0,350; p<0,01), general self-esteem (r = -0,438; p<0,01) and family self-esteem (r = -0,364; p<0,05). Conclusion: In the population suffering from anorexia and bulimia nervosa, the slim silhouette was found to be an important factor affecting self-image. Body dissatisfaction should be regarded as one of many factors influencing the development of psy-chopathology of eating disorders.

Key words: body dissatisfaction, self-esteem, anger expression, locus of control, depression, anxiety, eating disorders.

Jarosław PIOTROWSKI, Magdalena ŻEMOLTEL-PIOTROWSKA (2009). Kwestionariusz Roszczeniowości // The Entitlement Questionnaire Roczniki Psychologiczne // Annals of Psychology, 12, 2, 151-177.

Summary: This article presents the development of the Entitlement Questionnaire (EQ), designed to measure entitlement attitudes, understood as proneness to raising claims and to concentrating on defending one's own rights. The Questionnaire consists of three scales: Fighting Rights - measuring proneness to fighting for one's own rights, Belief in Obligations - measuring a conviction that the world is a net of mutual obligations between individuals and institutions, and Vindictiveness - measuring difficulties with forgiving wrongs. The study (N = 767) indicated that this method is characterized by high consistency and satisfactory stability. The pure entitlement attitude correlated positively with self-esteem, life satisfaction, individualism, narcissism and internal locus of control. Belief in obligations correlated positively with collectivism and external locus of control, and negatively with self-esteem and life satisfaction. Vindictiveness correlated positively with narcissism, however, it did not correlated neither with self-esteem nor with life satisfaction.

Key words: entitlement, scale construction.
