SELF-CONCEPT AND SOCIAL SUPPORT IN PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH INFANTILE CEREBRAL PALSY

The article analyses associations between social support and self-concept features. S. Norbeck's Social Support Questionnaire and W. Fitts' Self-Concept Scale were used in the study (both adapted by J. Kirenko). Parents of children with infantile cerebral palsy (experimental group) and parents of healthy children (control group) took part in the study.

In the introductory section of the article, the key concepts of social support and self- -concept were defined on the basis of the literature review and results of previous studies verifying possible relationships between these variables were presented. Then, the assumptions of the study were presented: research problem, hypotheses, instruments and the sample characteristics. The remainder of the article is devoted to the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the obtained results. In the concluding section, the interpretation of the results was made in the light of the formulated research problem and hypotheses.
