SELF-REGULATION IN THE FACE OF FAILURE

Abstract. Two experiments supported by current theoretical background on self-regulation in face of failure were presented in the paper. Participants in cognitive load or no load conditions were asked to put in mind of ones’ own severe and painful or unimportand and harmless failure. Competent attributes served as dependent measures. Participants assessed negatively only motivational (not cognitive) aspect of failure and enlarged the subjective temporal distance between self and severe (not harmless) failure. Both phenomenen were considered as self- regulation strategies.
