Abstract. The paper is an analysis of individual conditionings inclinations to self-
-handicapping of women and men. Self-handicapping was described in idea by Steven
Berglas and Edward Jones. It appears in different types of behaviors, which can make
the success more difficult, but serves to defence self.

The main aim of the work was to show the models of variables, which substantially
on inclination to self-handicapping of women and men. Work raises a subject of influ-
ence of self image on inclination to self-handicapping of women and men; it is a test
of verification of Berglas and Jones hypotheses and relates influence of parental atti-
tudes on self-handicapping (by analysis of perception of parental attitudes). The author
of this work takes problem of meaning of esteem values for formation of inclination to
self-handicapping too.

The results of work showed diverse range of factors influenting on inclination to
self-handicapping of women and men. The emotional distance of father, low level of
endeavour to reach one's success and valuing social acknowledgements determine self-
-handicapping at both sexes. Influence of esteemed values (to by ambitious, capable)
was only shown at women. Excessive requirements of parents in relation to women and
lack of concrete educational requirements in relation to men, significantly influences
on inclination to self-handicapping
