THE ADAPTATION OF POSTTRAUMATIC COGNITIONS INVENTORY (PTCI): REPORT FROM AN INITIAL VALIDATION STUDY

This article describes the adaptation procedure of the Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory (PTCI) as well as the results of an initial validation study. The PTCI is a self-report measure of trauma-related thoughts and beliefs, whose items were derived from clinical observations and recent theories of post-trauma psychopathology. The original validation study conducted by Foa et al. (1999) yielded 3 factors: Negative Cognitions About Self, Negative Cognitions About the World, and Self-Blame. The Polish version was administered to 174 volunteers, 112 of whom were psychiatric patients, and 62 – under and postgraduate volunteers. The results of this study show that the Polish version of PTCI demonstrates good psychometric properties and comparability with the original version of inventory.
