THE MOTIVES TO CHOOSE PSYCHOLOGICAL STUDIES AND ORIENTATIONS TOWARDS STUDIES AND PROFESION.

The research we present in this paper is part of a broader research project on the conditions of success of psychology students. On basis of our empirical material, collected by means of a questionnaire from about 1000 first-rear students, we sought an answer to yhe question whether and what factors affect young people those studies, their job, future work, and the relations between their motives and expectations with sex, mode of studies (intramural vs. extramural tuition), and the direction of the future specialization(social, intercultural and clinical).
The statistic analyses of the collected material allow us to distinguish five kinds of general orientations: occupational success (earnings and prestige), intellectual development, self-realization of one’s own interests, helping people and solving one’s problems and domination.
