THE PERSONAL MEANING OF RISK IN THE JOB OF THE POLICEMEN PREPARING FOR THE PACEKEEPING MISSION IN KOSOVO


The aim of the article is the analysis of the personal meaning of risk in the job of policemen preparing for the pacekeeping mission in Kosovo. There are two affective motives, which play an important role in the analysis of personal meaning of job risk: (1) the striving for self-enhacement, (2) the longing for the unification with somebody or something else. Futhermore, the process of meaning construction can be examined on the basis of two types of emotions: positive and negative ones. In the research on the personal meaning of risk in the job of policemen a modified version of H. Herman's self-confrontation method was used. 109 policeman were asked about personal expierences concerning the situation of risk in the job of a policeman. The end results have indicated that the examined policeman in the situation of risk tend to reveal: first of all, the high level of desire for self-enhancement, the high level of positive emotions, the low level of the longing for contact and union with somebody or something else and the low level of negative emotions.
