The Chair of Visual Communication has functioned in Institute of Journalism and Social Communication since the beginnings. In the years 2008 – 2015 the post of the Chairperson of the Chair has become Professor Leszek Mądzik - outstanding stage designer, theatre director, painter, photographer, poster designer, the founder and headmaster of the Plastic Art Stage at the Catholic University of Lublin, who has received the merit cross „Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice” among other things for his services in the field of culture.

Professor has been developing aesthetics and the sensitivity of students for years, forming intimate artist-audience relationship in the fields of art, familiarizing novices with the artistic world of their master. After Professor retired in 2015 Rev. Prof. Dr. Hab. Antoni Dębiński Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin conferred him the title Profesor emeritus.

When professor Mądzik retired Hab. PhD Justyna Szulich-Kałuża took up his place.

Research and scientific interests include the following issues:

1) Family in the mass media: creation of image of a family in mass media, linguistic picture of a family, visualizations of contemporary models of family in media messages, family identity projects promoted in the media.

 2) Methods of studying media messages (text and visual): analysis of content, analysis of semantic fields, general analysis, analysis of discourse – language strategies, documentary analysis, semiotic analysis.

 3) The use of qualitative research orientation in studies in the field of journalism and social communication: an adaptation of free and in-depth qualitative interviews; field research techniques: observation, conversational interviews, visual data analysis techniques.

an assistant researcher at the Chair of Social Communication in Media of the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication, The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. 2001-2016 a radio journalist at the Cultural Journalism Department of Polish Radio Lublin, she was awarded a number of awards and distinctions for radio programmes, such as GRAND PRIX Lubelskiej Nagrody Młodych Stowarzyszenia Dziennikarzy RP, Medal Wschodniej Fundacji Kultury “Akcent”, Nagroda Marszałka Województwa Lubelskiego. The author of the book Sztuka radiowa w Polsce i jej krytyka do 1939 roku [Radio Art in Poland and Criticism Thereof until 1939], Lublin 2012. Research interests include genres and narrative structures in a radio broadcast, as well as methodological issues of radio journalism. Member of The  Polish Society for Film and Media Studies.
