KUL - the only Polish university having partnership with the European Parliament

The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin has become a communications partner of the European Parliament (EP). The goal of this cooperation is to increase the involvement of young Europeans in the upcoming elections.

The agreement on joint activities related to the promotion of democratic involvement in the European Union was concluded in Brussels on behalf of the Catholic University of Lublin by the Vice-Rector for Students, Doctoral Students and Development, Dr. Beata Piskorska, Prof. of KUL.

- For more than a dozen years, the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) has been actively involved in disseminating expert knowledge about the European Parliament, the functioning of EU structures and mechanisms to both academics and students," emphasizes Dr. Beata Piskorska.

The John Paul II Catholic University in Lublin is the only Polish university to become a communication partner of the European Parliament. According to the Vice-Rector of the KUL, the signing of the agreement was connected with the presentation of a concrete action plan on the part of the Catholic University of Lublin. In March this year, a meeting with representatives of the EP Office in Poland took place at the Catholic University of Lublin. This was followed by the participation of Monika Stojowska, deputy spokesperson of the KUL, in the Leadership Academy in Brussels, where 250 people from more than 20 countries, including Finland, Greece, Hungary, Estonia, Sweden and Poland, met for a two-day conference. Meanwhile, on June 12, a conference on "EP Elections 2024 - the course, campaign, prospects" will take place in Poznań, co-organized by the Lublin branch of the Polish Society for European Studies.

As Monika Stojowska explains, the purpose of the partnership agreement signed in Brussels is to facilitate cooperation between the European Parliament and the Catholic University of Lublin, which is expected to contribute to greater involvement of young people in European Union initiatives. - This includes cooperation in the co-organization of events promoting the European democratic process, including the participation of young people in the upcoming elections, Monika Stojowska lists. She adds that the Catholic University of Lublin has been carrying out a number of activities related to EU issues for many years. - "These include debates, conferences and study visits," says the deputy spokesperson of the Catholic University of Lublin.

During the signing of the cooperation agreement, the European Parliament was represented by Jaume Duch, Director General of Public Communication and Spokesperson of the European Parliament. According to him, young people are the future of democracy and it is important to involve them in building the future of Europe. And for this, Jaume Duch emphasized, partners such as the Catholic University of Lublin are essential.

Elections to the European Parliament will be held in Poland on June 9. They are accompanied by the slogan #Useyourvote. May 1 this year marked the 20th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union.
