Issue 151 of the journal “Ethos: Kwartalnik Instytutu Jana Pawła II KUL” now available
Issue 151 of the journal “Ethos: Kwartalnik Instytutu Jana Pawła II KUL”, entitled “Towards the Core Values,” is already available. The volume comprises a set of insightful scholarly articles which focus on the pressing issues of our times, addressing them from the vantage points of philosophy and broadly conceived axiology. Among the authors, representing major academic milieus, Polish as well as international, are: Giovanni SALMERI from Tor Vergata University in Rome (“The Future of Consciousness: Julian Jaynes Revisited”), Jove Jim S. AGUAS from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila (“Just Society and the Culture of Peace”), Julianna J. THOMSON and Mark J. ROZELL from George Mason University, USA (“Challenges to Protecting Religious Freedoms: The Roles of Government and Societal Norms”), Furio PESCI from the Sapienza University in Rome (“Errors of Modernity and the New Paideia: On the Thought of Mortimer J. Adler”), Robert J. WOŹNIAK from the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow (“Chantal Delsol and Her Sapiential Philosophy: An Attempt at a Synthesis”), and Stanisław FEL from the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (“A Universal Criterion to Evaluate Socioeconomic Systems: John Paul II’s Concept of Human Rights”).
The successive issues of “Ethos: Kwartalnik Instytutu Jana Pawła II KUL”, such as “Consciousness and Identity,” “Truth and Post-truth,” “Memory,” and “Alienation,” focus on the philosophical problems reflected by key civilizational challenges. The journal was founded in 1988 by its first, long-term editor-in-chief Tadeusz Styczeń, SDS (1931–2010). Among the members of its Editorial Board are leading European and American academics.
“Ethos: Kwartalnik Instytutu Jana Pawła II KUL” is published by the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland. The conceptual and editorial framework of the journal is provided by the Center for Study of the Thought of John Paul II (The John Paul II Institute) at the Faculty of Philosophy, John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.
The journal’s online platform provides unrestricted access to its content, which, in 2025, has already had over 90,000 viewings. Rev. Marek Słomka, PhD, professor of philosophy at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, observes, “If you consider international publishing market, our journal is a unique instance of how, with a view to the core values promoted by John Paul II, tradition can be successfully combined with modernity.”
