APPLY https://www.kul.pl/an-international-conference-levitical-priesthood-in-the-aramaic-levi-document-and-related-literature,art_106013.html International Conference Levitical Priesthood in the Aramaic Levi Document and Related Literature May 20-22, 2024, John Paul II Catholic University, Lublin, Poland CTW 113 The conference is organized by the Center for the Study of Second Temple Judaism and the Institute of Biblical Studies of the Faculty of Theology at John Paul II Catholic University in Lublin, and is dedicated to the memory of Józef Tadeusz Milik (1922-2006), an eminent Polish biblical scholar, genius paleographer, and famous editor of the Dead Sea Scrolls. The aim of the conference is to analyze the literary characteristics, priestly theology, and sapiential and apocalyptic content of the Aramaic Levi Document. This document, based in part on the Book of Genesis, portrays Levi as a warrior who fought against the inhabitants of Shechem. It also portrays him as a priest ordained in both earthly and heavenly ceremonies, a student of liturgical and metrological matters, and a founder of the sapiential and apocalyptic priesthood. The conference will also deal with the recent publication and reconstruction of the Levi document by Józef Tadeusz Milik in Les livres des patriarches: Édition des textes, traduction et commentaire.
