About the Lecturer:
 

Omnia Amin has been a Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Zayed University (ZU) in Dubai, UAE since 2005. She has taught courses including English and Comparative Literature and Culture and Heritage, in addition to interdisciplinary courses focusing on the Middle East region in general and on the Gulf region in particular. She joined NYUAD for one year in Fall 2017, as a Senior Humanities Research Fellow to conduct research on Emirati theatre. In Spring 2015 she was Visiting Lecturer at the University of Vilnius, Lithuania.  She has presented at conferences in the US, Europe and the Middle East where she was keynote speaker in some of them.

In addition, Omnia Amin is a creative writer and the literary translator of leading authors including the late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, renowned Egyptian activist and writer Dr. Nawal El Saadawi, where she was her official spokesperson until her death, and Jordanian writer Ibrahim Nassrallah winner of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction.  She served as Dr Nawal El Saadawi's official spokesperson until her passing away in March 2021.

Omnia Amin had her own literary page in The Jordan Times Weekender for five years, as well as a weekly column called Cross Talk dedicated to contemporary cultural and social issues in the Arab World. She was selected as editor in chief of a book series for Palgrave Macmillan entitled Contemporary Arab Literature.
