EXPERT MEETING

Research Project: The Family as a Resource for Society

(Rome, 16 – 17 March 2012)

     The Pontifical Council for the Family, whose president is H.E. Cardinal Ennio Antonelli, initiated in 2010-2012 the international sociological research on contemporary family. The Polish Bishops' Conference also joined the study. The Pastoral Polish Family Counseling has undertaken the organization of the Polish part of the project. Development of research has been done in the Department of Family and Social Life, headed by Rev. Prof. Dr habil. Jerzy Koperek in the Institute of Family Sciences and Social Work at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin in cooperation with the Department of European Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wroclaw, headed by Prof. Dr. habil. Wiesław Bokajło.

     The study concerned the family and its functioning in the social conditions in different countries (Italy, Spain, USA, Mexico, Brazil and Poland). Their goal was to diagnose the needs of families, the possible areas of support and to answer the question how the present family is resource for society. For this purpose, an anonymous questionnaire was conducted in each Polish region among families aged 30-55 years. Diocesan Pastoral Care Departments of Families of 42 Polish dioceses have taken the survey. The results were used for statistical analysis.

     This publication contains English and Polish version of the study conducted in Poland, which was presented at the Expert Meeting organized by the Pontifical Council for the Family in Rome, which took place on 16 - 17 March 2012. The purpose of this meeting was to present and discuss reports on the results of sociological research conducted in the participating countries in this international project. Expert Meeting also constituted an important stage in preparation for the VII World Meeting of Families in Milan (30 May - 3 June 2012) attended by Pope Benedict XVI.
