The scientific workers of the History of Art Institute of the Catholic University of Lublin are engaged in scientific research on many different sides of the history of art, pondering over art and visual culture.The Institute is in the close contact with scientific circle of the Warsaw University, Jagiellonic University, University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznan and the University of Mikolaj Kopernik in Torun.The House of the Scientific Work of KUL in Kazimierz Dolny cyclically sets up the symposiums that consider art and culture of the late antiquity, the nature in medieval art, the history of modern art and the problems of methodology and theory of art. The Institute also cooperates with the Association of the History of Art Scientists and with many museums and the editors of the papers and magazines considering the art and literature subject. The Institute participates in popularization of the knowledge about art. We started the cooperation with the National Muzeum in Gdansk and the Muzeum 'Studio' in Lwow. We also cooperate with the custom-house in Biala Podlaska. The Institute cooperates with those institutions in the scientific and didactic plane.

            The studies on the history of art condider the the history of art of the prehistorical times, antiquity, Middle Ages, art of the XV-XVIII centuries and the contemporary art. They also include the latest art occurrences. The didactic offer of our Institute is original, because it includes the early Christian art, the artistic doctrines and the theory of art, the criticism and the history of contemporary art and the museology and protection of the monuments. Our didactic offer also includes many different monographic lectures.

The students can also every year learn practically during lasting one week tours and lasting three weeks cataloguing  and museum practices that take place in the museums and art galleries.

            The studies are held in different modes:

-intramural studies of the first grade(BA) with the possibility of continuation on the second grade (MA)

-intramural studies of the second grade(MA)

-non-intramural studies of the first grade(BA) with the possibility of continuation on the non-intramural studies of the second grade (MA)

-studies of hhe third grade (for candidates for a doctor's degree)

            During the studies of the I and II grade students can participate following specializations:

-tutorial-prepares students to work at school. It includes the courses in psychology, pedagogics, voice emition and finger language, what prepares them to work with deaf people, what is rare on the universities.

-museology and protection of the monuments- prepares students to work in the museums and institutions that go in for protecting the monuments. The courses are held by the specialists in conservation, law and in managing the institutions

This specialization is also held as the post-graduate studies.

            The best students of the history of art can apply for a scholarship of Witkowscy and for the prize of prof. Andrzej Ryszkiewicz. They can also apply for the Erasmus programme that allowes to go to the institutes of history of art in Italy, France and Slovakia.

            In the institute students can develop their artistic and research passions in the Scientific Set and the Gallery1.

            The history of art graduate leaves the university as a extensively educated researcher and classical scholar.

            He can work in the museums, but also in the galleries of contemporary art. Moreover, he can be a scientific worker and a teacher or as a critic of the contemporary art.
