Adam Kubiś, born in 1976 in Mielec (Poland), graduated from the Janek Bytnar High School in Kolbuszowa in 1995. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 24, 2001. In June 2001, he was granted the degree of Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Cracow (now The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow), having written his thesis on the pneumatology of John's Gospel (Jn 15:26-27) under the direction of Rev. Dr. Hab. Michał Bednarz. Subsequently, he spent one school year in pastoral work in Brzostek. 

 

In July 2002, Kubiś was assigned to Rome to study biblical sciences at the Pontifical Biblical Institute (PBI). Then, from October 2003 through February 2004, he resided with the Jesuit community in Jerusalem and studied Biblical Hebrew and Biblical Archaeology within the compass of the program “The Bible and Its World” at the Rothberg International School of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He then returned to Rome and completed the remainder of curriculum at the PBI. After presenting his thesis dedicated to the concept of liberation in the Fourth Gospel (Jn 8:31-36), written under the direction of Prof. Johannes Beutler SJ, he received a licentiate degree in biblical sciences (S.S.L.) on June 8, 2006. During the final year of his studies in Italy, he also worked as an assistant parish priest in St. Francis Parish in Carpi, in the province of Modena.

 

Between 2006 and 2010, he continued his biblical studies at the Dominican École Biblique et Archéologique Française de Jérusalem where he defended his doctoral thesis in biblical sciences (S.S.D.) with the distinction summa cum laude (January 8, 2011). The supervisor of the thesis was Prof. Luc Devillers OP. The dissertation was subsequently published in France under the title The Book of Zechariah in the Gospel of John (Études bibliques: Nouvelle série 64; Pendé: J. Gabalda et Cie 2012, pp. 590). While studying at the École, he participated in the joint seminar (École biblique and Hebrew University) guided by S. Rutzer, É. Nodet, O.-Th. Venard, G. Tatum, and J. Taylor. For one semester (Fall 2008), he was also a visiting student at the Harvard Divinity School.

 

After completing his S.S.D., he moved to Austria to work in the diocese of Graz-Seckau for two years (2010-2012). Since October 1, 2012, he has been a lecturer at the Institute of Biblical Studies at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and the Major Seminary in Rzeszów.

 

Between 2012-2017, he worked at the Department of Biblical Theology and Proforistics, and since 2017, he has been part of the Department of Exegesis of the Gospels and Apostolic Writings. Between 2013 and 2017, he served as the reviews editor in the quarterly “The Biblical Annals.” Between 2014-2018 he served as vice-editor-in-chief of the biblical-theological biannual “Verbum Vitae.” Since 2018, he has been the editor-in-chief of this journal (presently quarterly). In the fall semester of 2017, he taught as a visiting professor at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He was also a part of the faculty at the SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, MI, USA (Spring 2019, Spring 2020, Fall 2021). In 2019, he obtained the degree of Doctor habilitatus, and in 2021 he was promoted to associate professor at The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.

 

In 2019, he founded “DABAR School,” and in 2020, he was elected vice-president of the Association for Promoting Biblical Studies “Verbum Sacrum.” Since 2020, he has served as the editor of “Biblia Lubelska.” Since 2021, he has held the position of scientific editor of the Polish theological database “Theo-logos.” Since 2022, he has also been the editor of the book series “Lublin Theological Studies.” Since 2022, he has been serving as the rector of the Major Seminary in Rzeszów.
