Summer School 2018 impressions - Katherine Townsend (UK/Poland)
Katherine Townsend, UK/Poland (Summer School 2018)
My name is Kasia Townsend, I was born in London in 1993 and my mum is Polish and my dad is English. I studied Graphic Design and Photography for 3 years at Kingston University in London and I’ve reached a point in my life where I wanted to practice my Polish to a better standard so that I could speak with my family and possibly live in Poland for a few months, to see if I enjoy the experience.
About 8 years ago my mum encouraged me to try a course like this, but at the time I wasn’t sure about it. I wanted to try something like this before turning 25 in October this year, so I researched about KUL’s Polish Summer School online as well as the course at Jagiellonian University in Kraków. I was really impressed with the course structure at KUL and knowing that I had 2 weeks available this summer, I was really looking forward to spending my time in Lublin as I thought it would be a great place to learn Polish.
I received a really quick response after filling in my online application. Since being here, the students, teachers and catering staff have been really kind, approachable and easy to talk to, especially the teachers, they are really understanding and they put a lot of fun into the way they teach.
I would definitely recommend the course to someone who would love to learn Polish, because the course is great!

This year for the 46th time we organize the Summer School of Polish Language and Culture at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. From July 1 to August 31 we will host over 170 participants coming from 40 different countries who will delve into the secrets of the Polish language and get to know the culture of our country.
The summer programs will last from 2 to 8 weeks with different levels of intensity - from 5 to 8 hours a day. Apart from Polish classes it covers the lectures on Polish culture, literature, history and socio-economic issues. Moreover, a rich cultural and tourist program is envisaged. Participants will visit Lublin, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Kozłówka, Zamość, and will take part in concerts and specifically prepared dance workshops for them. Once a week there will be a seminar for those who are particularly interested in the Polish culture. The program will be complemented by additional workshops and events, for example a pronunciation competition or a city game.
