The International Conference Faith, Reason and Truth
On October 24-25, 2023. The Center for Research on the Thought of John Paul II - John Paul II Institute of the Catholic University of Lublin and the Faculty of Philosophy of the Catholic University of Lublin are organizing an International Scientific Conference under the title: Faith, Reason and Truth. On the 25th Anniversary of John Paul II's "Fides et ratio". The main purpose of the conference is to reflect on the theme of the encyclical "Fides et ratio", which is a significant element of public debate, not only at the academic level. Despite the passage of years, the theme of Fides et Ratio has not lost its relevance and is being developed also outside the ecclesial-religious environment.
Representatives of various academic disciplines have been invited to the conference and will present their reflections on the many aspects of the relationship between religion and science. The proceedings will be a space for dialogue both for professionals in the field (October 24) and for a wider audience, such as teachers and students from Lublin's high schools (October 25), through the presentation (also in a popular scientific manner) of the bearing problems at the interface of religious faith and science.
Among the speakers are: Prof. Piotr Gutowski (KUL), Prof. Paul Gavrilyuk (University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, USA), Prof. Zita Toth (King's College London, UK), Prof. Samuel Lebens (University of Haifa, Israel), Prof. Jan Wolenski (College of Information Technology, Technology and Management, Rzeszow), Prof. William Hasker (em. Huntington University, IN, USA), Prof. John F. Haught (em. Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA), Rev. Prof. Wojciech Grygiel (UPJPII, Kraków), Prof. Robert Larmer (University of New Brunswick, Canada), Prof. Elise Crull (The City University of New York), Rev. Prof. Krzysztof Kaucha (KUL), Prof. Jacek Wojtysiak (KUL), Rev. Dr. Miłosz Hołda (UPJPII, Kraków).
The conference program also includes a city game for young people, an Oxford Debate, a meeting devoted to the "Spiritual Perception Project" and a performance by the ITP Theater "Sztukmistrz" based on Isaac Bashevis Singer's novel "Sztukmistrz of Lublin". This will be the first performance in the history of the ITP Theatre with dialogues in English.
Most of the conference presentations will be translated simultaneously. Everyone interested is welcome.
