Rev. Prof. Antoni Dębiński
Rector of KUL

Since 1945, the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin has bestowed the highest academic title of Doctor Honoris Causa on people who have made extraordinary contributions to science, culture, and religion, while also have proven to be individuals of outstanding integrity. Today, it is with great pleasure and sincerest appreciation that we bestow this title on Professor Richard Swinburne.

On 25 June 2015, of the Council following the request of the Faculty of Philosophy, the Senate of KUL adopted a resolution to bestow the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on this outstanding philosopher of religion. Concomitant with the current discussions within analytical philosophy, he has been committed to demonstrating the validity of theism. He combines the depth and diligence of his discourse with a commitment to clearly defined apologetic tasks of philosophy, which makes him one of the greatest champions not only of religion as such, but also of Christian doctrine.

Professor Swinburne, we are honoured by your acceptance of our highest academic title, and pleased to have you join the eminent group of KUL's Doctors Honoris Causa, who are part of the great family of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.

Professor, it is with gratitude and respect that I wish you, personally and on behalf of our entire academic community, great satisfaction from your achievements and accomplishments, and further academic success of equal proportions.
