Seminar "Ethnic Minorities in Security Contexts."
On 19 September 2025, the Institute of Political Science and Administration hosted a seminar entitled "Ethnic Minorities in Security Contexts." The seminar focused on an interdisciplinary analysis of securitization and desecuritization of ethnic minorities in Central Europe. Firstly, the contexts, determinants, and causes were identified. Secondly, the discussion focused on the ethnic policies, actions, and strategies employed by states to neutralise potential threats arising from the presence of minorities. This discussion placed particular emphasis on the shaping of national identity and the construction of the concept of the nation. Thirdly, the minorities' responses to securitization practices were discussed. Finally, ways of constructing alternative narratives aimed at promoting a positive and multidimensional image of minorities in the discourse on social security were discussed. The seminar was attended by researchers from a number of research centres in Poland, including the University of Bialystok, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, University of Łodz, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, University of Silesia, University of Warsaw, University of Wroclaw and the OSCE HCNM Office.
