The School of Polish Language and Culture

36th edition of the Summer School of Polish Language and Culture
Our programs start on July 6 and continue till the end of August. Over 110 students from 23 countries participate in our courses. As usual, the greatest number of students come from the US, but there are also ones from Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Canada. Many of them are students of prestigious universities like Yale University, Harvard University, Stanford University, Columbia University, or North Carolina State University. Students learn the language and get to know Polish culture. There are no more than 10 people in one group. Every day, apart from classes, there is a lecture, given first in English then in Polish. The lecturers, professors from different Polish universities, guarantee high quality of the classes. Among the subjects dealt with during the lectures are: “Contemporary Polish Art and Culture,” “History of Poland,” “History and Culture of Polish Jews,” “Contemporary Poland in International Environment,” “John Paul II,” “Economic Aspects of Social Changes in Poland,” “Tolerance and Religious Pluralism in Poland,” “Polish Art,” “Polish Literature” and “Linguistic Creativity of Poles.”
Students can choose the intensity of the program so that it fits their needs. They can have 5-8 hours of classes a day. The rich cultural and tourist offer completes the program. Students can visit Lublin, Kazimierz, Krakow, Warsaw, Zamość, and Białowieża. The trips familiarize them with Poland and the Lublin region. We present both cultural richness, history, monuments, and contemporary Poland. Many students are in Poland for the first time. We can see how the stereotypes, also the negative ones, are overcome and how the ideas about our country change into real likening of Poland, Poles and the language.
Despite high competitiveness, the Summer School of Polish Language and Culture at the John Paul II University of Lublin is popular with students. What are the School’s assets? Professional team of teachers, rich program adjusted to the Students’ needs and expectations, tested and still modernized ways of teaching, unique lectures by specialists, accompanying events: trips, performances, movies, concerts, meetings… And the fantastic atmosphere and contact with people of various cultures and environments.
Every year over 200 Students participate in the summer, semester-long and year-long courses. Many of them see Poland by what they experience in Lublin. They oftentimes come back to our School. One could not imagine better promotion.
