The research in the Department of German Linguistics focuses on the cognitive linguistics and the contrastive linguistics, mainly in German and Polish. The theoretical background are frame linguistics, conceptual integration, including conceptual metaphor and the blending theory, as well as, the model of Lublin Ethnolinguistics School (cognitive definition, profiling of concepts). Additionally, the glottodidactic research is conducted.
