The Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) is an important centre of norwidological research in Poland. Norwidological research at KUL began in the early 1980s. Since 1983, the year of the hundredth anniversary of the poet’s death, the university has been publishing a scientific journal "Studia Norwidiana" [“Norwidian Studies”], around which the research community was established. Two years later, a research and development unit was established, currently known as the Centre for Research on Cyprian Norwid’s Artistic Heritage. Its initiator was Prof. Sawicki, who managed its activities for many years and defined the most important directions of research. One of the most important tasks of the Centre, carried out jointly with the Scientific Society of the Catholic University of Lublin, is the preparation of a scientific edition of Norwid's writings, which will comprise 17 volumes of the poet's “Dzieła wszystkie” [“Complete Works”].
