Rev. dr. Marek Jan Pytko (born May 4, 1966, Rzeszów, Poland) works for the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication as assistant professor at the Chair of Media Culture.

He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Cracow (1986-1988). He graduated in theology from the Catholic University of Lublin (1995). In 1995-1997, he worked as a religion teacher in lower and upper secondary schools in Puławy and Lublin.

He studied philosophical anthropology at the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy in Florence, Italy (1997-1999) and social and institutional communication at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome where, in 2005, he defended his doctoral thesis “The authenticity of the communication of the truth in Søren Kierkegaard’s thought and the contemporary challenges.”

Research interests: institutional communication of the Church, Church–media relationship, media ethics, media history, communication studies, new media.

2005-2007 – General director of Radio eR in Lublin (www.radioer.pl): leadership of a media institution, planning, organization, management, and institutional representation.

 

2005-2007 – Host of numerous “live” religious, cultural and commentary radio broadcasts in Polish and English; author of feature stories, interviews and discussions on the radio, in the printed press and on the Internet.

 

2003-2005 – The Catholic Information Agency (www.kai.pl) correspondent in Rome; author of ca. 100 agency dispatches from Italy.
