FIELDS of STUDIES
Studies at the Faculty allow students to fully develop intellectually and acquire practical skills indispensable in the legal profession. We put pressure on obligatory subjects that constitute the canon of legal education; still they allow students to select a particular specialization owing to a wide choice of the areas of scientific interest and a flexible curriculum. Recent years’ data confirm that KUL graduates lead the way in the competitions that single out those to be granted the post-gradual practical legal training.
The Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration offers the students four major fields of study:
LAW
- full-time master's degree
- extramural course master's degree
- full-time postgraduate studies
- extramural postgraduate studies
The graduates of law owing to the knowledge of penal law, civil law and administration are well prepared to meet the requirements of all legal occupations. They can apply for different post-gradual training such as that of a barrister, judge, public notary, prosecutor, legal advisor, or legislator. In particular, much emphasis is placed on the knowledge of the European law, foreign languages and the development of practical skills. The course realized within the confines of the European ECTS programme allows for the choice of specialization and studies at foreign partner universities. The students expand their knowledge and broaden their horizons in the Lawyers’ Scientific Circle which arranges the Lawyers’ Week event at the University on a yearly basis.
CANON LAW
- full-time studies – for persons with a degree in theology
- full-time studies for laity
- extramural course – for persons with a degree in theology
- postgraduate studies
The students of canon law get familiar with the regulations of the Catholic Church of the Latin order, and that of the Eastern Catholic Churches. They gain practical and theoretical knowledge concerning the legal procedure which allows them, after being awarded the bachelor’s degree in canon law, to find employment in the church jurisdiction as a judge or defence counsel of marriage, and in administration. The lay graduates are employed in publishing houses, radio and television, and as journalists of Catholic magazines. The studies of canon law reveal the ethical character of law, its utility in the world and heavenly dimension of peoples’ lives.
ADMINISTRATION
